Computer and network support technicians are constantly sought after in Great Britain, as organisations are becoming more reliant upon their knowledge and skills. One thing you must always insist on is proper direct-access 24×7 support via dedicated instructors and mentors. Far too often we see trainers who only provide support to you inside of office hours (typically 9am-6pm) and sometimes a little earlier or later (but not weekends usually).

some companies only provide email support (slow), and telephone support is usually to a call-centre that will chat nicely with you for 5 minutes to ask what the issue is and then simply send an email to an instructor – who will attempt to call you within 24-48 hrs, when it’s convenient to them. This is all next to useless if you’re lost and confused and only have certain times available in which to do your studies.

Top training companies use multiple support centres from around the world. They use an online interactive interface to join them all seamlessly, irrespective of the time you login, there is always help at hand, avoiding all the delays and problems.

Never make do with less than you need and deserve. Direct-access round-the-clock support is the only way to go with computer-based training. Maybe burning the midnight-oil is not your thing; but for most of us, we’re at work while the support is live.

Most trainers typically provide mainly work-books and reference manuals. Obviously, this isn’t much fun and not a very good way of achieving retention.

Our ability to remember is increased with an involvement of all our senses – educational experts have expounded on this for decades now.

Ensure you only ever work with someone that quizzes you to uncover the best thing for you – not for their retirement-fund! It’s very important to locate the right starting point of study for you.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got any previous certification, then it’s not unreasonable to expect to begin at a different level to someone who is new to the field.

If you accept anything less than online 24×7 support, you’ll very quickly realise that you’ve made a mistake. It may be that you don’t use it late in the night, but what about weekends, evenings and early mornings at some point.

A so-called advisor who doesn’t question you thoroughly – it’s more than likely they’re really a salesperson. If they push a particular product before learning about your history and whether you have any commercial experience, then you know you’re being sold to.

Quite often, the starting point of study for a student with experience is massively dissimilar to the student with no experience.

Opening with a basic PC skills program first may be the ideal way to get into your IT training, but depends on your skill level.
